New Beginnings

I'm getting so excited to turn this here blog back into a travel blog.  I LOVE travel blogging - I love talking through the sights, the smells, the hapless misadventures.  And most of all, I love having a record of those things afterward, because the memories inevitably fade, with time.

The new design is going to be AWESOME, if I do say so myself.  It feels so much more ...me.  And
there's lots of room for nice big photos.

Can't. Wait.

Information is Beautiful

The guys over at Information is Beautiful create all sorts of lovely graphs and charts, incorporating graphic design and aesthetic elements to help us visualize information.

This one is my favorite that I've seen recently.  I wonder if they made a chart graph like this of my life, what it would look like?

Food for thought, methinks.

HTML? Me?

I've been working very hard on my new blog site lately...it's in a test blog until it's ready to debut.

It's going to be fab...just fab. If I can wrangle the HTML just right. (Yes, I said working hard)

Also, I made this picture a long time ago.  Prophetic?

Monday morning grab-bag

This is what the morning sky looked like over the desert:

clouds.

Big gray-purply gloom-filled rainclouds.

Rain, rain, come our way,
don't you dare wait for another day.

Anyway, it was a lovely, hot weekend that I'm awfully sad to have ended.  It involved a trip to the library, an impromptu pool party (those are the best kind), and getting my shaky Spanish confidence beat into el-groundo by a lovely she-devil from Guatemala who charmingly and politely laid me out for the slaughter.

Mental note: practice more Spanish. As in, immediately.

And now this morning The Mister is sick and my favorite mother-in-law laid up with a broken ankle.  Paging the pharmacy! What ever happened to the idea that a robot would run all our errands?

Dear Jetsons,
I feel lied to.

A Movie (Non)Recommendation

I totally know you are itching to see this movie. I do. I DO!

Hello, world.

The word of last week was sick.  Sick sick sick.  I sounded like a donkey with laryngitis for about a week (a week!).  Much better now though, and it bought me a lot of reading time on the couch.

This week the word would have to be aprender - Spanish for learn.  We were doing so much studying before the LSAT took over our lives, but have really dropped the ball since then. Whoops!  (Oh, and who saw the World Cup final? ARRIBA ESPANA!).

Last night we started watching the Spanish movie Sol y Viento for about the 96th time.  It's one of those low-budget learning films that has accompanying vocabulary lists and hints on new phrases and stuff.  It's so cheesetastic I almost can't even see straight, and The Mister and I have incorporated as many of the Veleveeta-thick moments into our daily routine as possible.  "Un torbellino, Don Jaime!" is not a particularly meaningful phrase, but it gets points around the G-ski casa for style when thrown randomly into a conversation.

un torbellino!

Excuse the fluorescent lighting

Note: I just love it when someone brings in a bag of fresh grapefruits and leaves them in the breakroom to take for free.

Off to the California coast this weekend for the holiday weekend - happy 4th of July to you all!

It is my favorite holiday because it involves summer, cookouts, fried chicken, pool parties, fireworks, days at the lake, posicles and flag-shaped cakes with strawberries and blueberries on top.

Really, what's not to love?

Prepare yourself

This blog has a limited life span in its current form.

In a few weeks it has a makover coming, and then it appears to be turning back into a travel blog.

Okay?
